A literary work on Sanjivani Episode..

I just love Ramayana, especially, the marvellous deeds of Shri Hanuman ji. Hanuman, being my family deity, has always been my centre of devotion, and I wrote this piece of work to highlight his stature as well as the warmth of his heart. Hope you will appreciate this. :)


When Laxman was on the verge of death, certain renowned Quack [Hakim] from Lanka was summoned in order to cure the bedridden Laxman. The Quack discovered that the wound that Laxman received right in the middle of his chest could turn out to be life threatening. So he turned around and said: "Dear Rama, The only remedy to save Laxman's life is the Sanjivani Booty(herbs) which grows amidst the turf of Sumeru hills. Please send someone rightaway to bring that herb or Laxman will be no more."

Rama, upon hearing these words, became more anxious. He just felt helpless and for few moments, could not decide as to whom he should send for this herculean task.

Hanuman, undoubtedly, was already awaiting Rama's order for this assignment. He came forward and said to Rama," Dear Lord, just give me a wink and I shall put at stake all that belongs to me for this noble cause of saving your brother’s life. Please command me and I'll do the needful in the earliest possible time. Rest assured."

Rama nodded his head and Lo!! Even the very next moment, Hanuman was out of sight to discharge his duties. He flew with speed of thunder.
It took him simply a few fractions of moment to get to Sumeru Hills. Now he was to pluck the Sanjivani Booty and move back to the battlefield.
But wait a bit....
Was the task so simple? ... Not really... due to his ignorance, he just failed to identify as to which one was the Sanjivani among the various herbs that he came across there on the Sumeru hills. He realized his mistake…But to no avail now. The time was ticking away.. so was the possibility of Laxman's survival. He was on the horns of dilemma whether to get back to Rama or to do something unusual and impossible...however, nothing could be impossible for Hanuman, the living demigod who had confronted with numerous odds throughout his life and conquered them.

So taking into account the urgency of job, hanuman decided to attempt the so-called impossible thing... He stood upright and erect, mustered all his might and with both of his hands, uprooted the Sumeru hills. Now everything was out of his sight, but the battlefield where Laxman was lying unconscious. He flew back with enormous speed, embarrassing even the most rapid objects under the sun. Duty was calling him and Lo, here comes the mighty man, Hanuman. He was back to battlefield, but with something that dreaded even the God, Rama, himself:

The lofty Sumeru Hills….

So let’s prey…
”Dear Hanuman, please save us from all the odds and mishaps in life just the way you saved the life of Laxman.”
